Home THOUGHT PROVOKING... AnonyMouse Lying
Lying

Anyway, an interesting thing happened to our good friend Mouse the other day at work. Often we try and be truthful, but in jest we say something which isn't the truth. What was learnt from this, is that sometimes when we are with family it is somewhat OK

but when we are with non-Muslims it can be perceived as something else.

A senior colleague asked Mouse to think about some psychological thing...as he wanted his opinion. The non-Muslim colleague told him he will chat to him about it later. The next day he came to Mouse and said hey you forgot to come talk to me. Being good friends they laughed and Mouse said, oh but you said later, so that's an indefinite timeline and I'll come to you whenever I get a chance. The guy said OK and asked if he had thought about it(the problem), so Mouse replied that he has better things to do with his time(this was perceived as a joke and meant as one) and had not given it a seconds thought. However Mouse had thought about it briefly, and this came out later in the conversation. The Non-Muslim jokingly said he lied, but his response made Mouse think, it went like this: "I am shocked that a Muslim and a person of your faith actually lied".

Think about it, this person, even though it was a joke, labelled something against our pure faith based on this. We should definitely try and think about what we say. The Hadith is as follows:
"Observe truthfulness as a duty and always speak the truth, for truthfulness puts you on the path of virtue, and virtue leads you to Heaven, and when a person tells the truth as a rule, and makes truthfulness a way of life he attains the place of sincerity and faithfulness and with Allah, his name is written as a truthful. And stay strictly away from falsehood, for falsehood puts you on the path of immorality, and leads you to Hell, and when a man takes to lying, the sequel is that his name is written, with Allah, as a great liar."(Bukhari and Muslim).

AS A GREAT LIAR....

Perhaps we should think hard over this. Rather speak the truth. Think about our beloved Nabi(Peace be upon him), when he came with the true word of Islam, he asked if they would beleive him regarding an army being behind the mountain and they said yes. How can we expect to invite to this deen if we speak lies, even in jest!

Make an intention never to speak a lie again....
Never to lie about being sick to get out of something...(there are cases for this)
Never to lie as a joke...
Never to lie to make a mockery of someone...

NEVER TO LIE....in shaa Allah.
Let us make intention never to lie again

Like this if you make intention never to lie again!

Hadeeth Newsflash

Reported by Abu Hurairah (RA): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Allah, the Exalted, says: `I will contend on the Day of Resurrection against three (types of) people: One who makes a covenant in My Name and then breaks it; one who sells a free man as a slave and devours his price; and one who hires a workman and having taken full work from him, does not pay him his wages.'''
