New Money

Many of us Alhamdulillah have qualified, and suddenly have access to large amounts of cash. Whilst this is indeed a blessing from Allah Ta'Ala we should also be careful. With the advent of new money and a constant income we are suddenly open to a whole new world of 'finance'. It is a natural human trait that we always want more! We see our friends buying new things, or we see th

is easy access to money and we thus want it. Should we have the money, and it won't take us away from our deen, then we are permitted in buying it. But the point of this email is with regards to buying cars/homes/holidays etc. on credit.

At the end of the day, us chaarous all smaak the nice things in life. But lemme ask you this, would you ever do anything that is forbidden in Islam? We know many things, would you drink alcohol? Would you go sleep with someone? Perhaps sometimes we are weak and do this at one time, and then feel bad about it and repent. Imagine doing this sin constantly 24/7...would we ever do it? Then why would we buy something on credit?

Why is Interest Haraam?

Look, at the end of the day we are Muslims. We are to submit. Thus Allah Ta'Ala tells us the following with regards to riba(interest):

“...but whoever returns (to dealing in riba), such are the dwellers of the Fire — they will abide therein.” [Qur’an 2:275]

“…Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden riba.” [Qur’an 2:275]

“O you who believe, fear Allah and give up what remains of your demand for riba, if you are indeed believers. If you do it not, take notice of war from Allah and His Messenger.” [Qur’an 2:278-279]

Imagine if America declared war on you alone. Or if some big tycoon declared it on you, you'd be scared, Now imagine Allah and his Messenger(peace be upon him) did it? I would be exceptionally scared...

The following Hadith also echoes the above:

Riba is haram in all of its aspects, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said (Muslim), “Allah has cursed the one who consumes riba, the one who gives it, the one who witnesses over it, and the one who writes down the transaction.”

Now at the end of they day, I know that we all want that new car. We can easily get it on credit, but would we rather drive the fancier cars of this world in exchange for the Aakhirah? Are we such gandhus? My beloved brother and sister...the above hadith is absolutely clear, Do not go near such transactions! For those of us who have already, find a way out. Sell the vehicle, rent the house, how can we expect any barakah in our lives if Allah has declared war on us?

Allah Ta'Ala knows best.

It has been reported from Muhammad bin Abdillah bin Jahsh radhiyallahu anhu who said, “We were sitting in the courtyard of the Musjid where the Janazas used to be placed and Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam was sitting amongst us when he suddenly lifted his gaze towards the sky staring. Thereafter, he turned his gaze and placed his hand upon his forehead stating, ‘Subhanallah, Subhanallah, what severity has descended!’ We remained silent for that day and night but we only witnessed tranquility until the morning.” Muhammad (the narrator) then stated, “Thus I asked Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam ‘What is the severity that descended?’ He sallallahu alayhi wasallam said, ‘It was in regards to debt. By the Being in whose grasp lies the life of Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wasallam if a person is martyred in the path of Allah and then brought back to life and martyred in the path of Allah and then brought back to life and martyred again in the path of Allah and then brought back to life and he had a debt upon him, he will not enter Jannah until he repays his debt!

Hadeeth Newsflash

Reported by Abu Hurairah (RA): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Allah, the Exalted, says: `I will contend on the Day of Resurrection against three (types of) people: One who makes a covenant in My Name and then breaks it; one who sells a free man as a slave and devours his price; and one who hires a workman and having taken full work from him, does not pay him his wages.'''
